The Witty Old Lady Named Granny Smith

A Share from Tan

Granny Smith went to Withdraw Money at the bank, she handed her bank card to the teller and said, “I would like to withdraw $500..”

Adriana the teller at the bank told her, “For withdrawals less than $5,000, please use the ATM”.

Granny Smith then asked, “Why?” Adriana irritably told her, “These are rules. Please leave if there is no other matter. There is a queue behind you.” She then returned the card spitefully to the old lady.

Granny Smith remained silent. She returned the card to the teller, Adriana, and said, “Please help me withdraw all the money I have.”

Astonished when she checked the account balance, Adriana nodded her head, leaned down and said to her, “My apologies Granny, you have $3.5 billion in your account and our bank does not have so much cash currently. Could you make an appointment and come again tomorrow?”

Granny Smith then asked, “How much am I able to withdraw now?”

Adriana told her, “Any amount up to $300,000.”

Granny Smith then told Adriana that she wanted to withdraw $300,000 from her account. Adriana did so quickly and handed it to the Granny Smith respectfully. Granny Smith kept $500 in her bag and asked her to deposit the balance of $299,500 back into her account. Adriana was dumbfounded.

*The moral of this story is that rules are inflexible but we humans can be flexible when the situation requires us to be. We should not treat people based on their outward appearances, rather, we should treat everyone with respect. And … never be too quick to judge a book by its cover.

I read somewhere “The first to apologize is the most courageous

The first to forgive is the strongest

The first to forget is the most happiest”

“Let no one take from me the wrinkles of my forehead, achieved through astonishment at the beauty of life ; Or those of my mouth, which show how much I have kissed; And neither … the bags under my eyes: in them is the memory of how much I’ve cried. ‘They are mine and they are beautiful'”
